Tertulia
Tertulia opened its doors on Queen Street East in August 2018 with interesting art on the walls, friendly staff, delicious baked goods, and a variety of ways to get your caffeine fix.
When David Kennedy bought the building, he knew he wanted something with a character for it. “I knew when I purchased this building I wanted to bring something really special to the community,” says Kennedy.
Then the name “Tertulia” came across – a word that that dates back to the 16th century Spain and came with a meaning that resonated.
A tertulia is a gathering place of friends who come together to talk about things like art, culture, books, life – whatever is of interest, it was the perfect name for a coffee shop that values creativity and independent expression.
The community has welcomed and being very receptive to Tertulia into the neighbourhood, the cafe has hosted several successful events at the coffee shop, including a well attended creative thinkers series.
Riverside is evolving but still has that sense of realness. There’s a real authenticity to Riverside.
Located at 711 Queen Street East, Tertulia is open seven days a week from 7 am to 7 pm. With sweets, sandwiches, and savoury coffees, it’s the perfect ways to spend an afternoon in Riverside.
