On Saturday, June 7th, the Riverside District (Located on historic Queen St. East between the DVP and Empire Ave) is hosting their annual spring Eats & Beats StreetFEST. Come and join us for a festival showcasing Riverside’s family friendly food outlets and unique small town in the big city atmosphere.

 The Riverside District is renowned for its home design shops, heritage architecture, coffee shops, food providores and popular contemporary restaurants.  Local eateries will be opening their doors serving tasting plates and musical entertainment in the heart of Queen Street East.

 This year we have a whole host of different activities happening, including:

Nell & Natasha’s Blues & Rhythms BBQ, where you can Feed your stomach and soul at Nell & Natasha’s Annual Free BBQ and HUDU Rising Blues Band performing classics and originals from 2:00-6:00pm. PLUS face painting also sorts of different family activities.

 Three informative and entertaining walks; there is the Diversity of Riverside Historical Walk at 1:00pm, and discover the diverse history of Riverside. The walk kicks off with the 100th Anniversary of the Ralph Thornton Centre, and is led by local historical aficionado, Ron Fletcher. The RAW Art & Insider Tour at  2:00pm, starting at the Riverside booth at Jimmie Simpson Park, where you can get the inside scoop on historical Riverside and the Riverdale Art Walk. Artists’ works are showcased in store fronts in this pop-up street gallery. Plus, keep your eyes on twitter @RiversideBIA  &  @Culinaryadvco  for an exclusive space on Chef Scott Savoie’s Culinary Adventure Co. – where foodies get their adrenaline rush – will be doing this free Riverside insiders food tour.

 From 1:00pm Tastes of the Middle East – Excite & Delight the Sense with Food, Dance and Filigree Henna. Delight the senses with an array of delectable of Middle Eastern tasters. 3:00pm get an intro into belly dancing with acclaimed Sarah Skinner, known for her mastery of belly dance. Adorn yourself with gorgeous Henna tattoos by Gord Grover.

Big Horn Beats on Saulter Street will come alive with fresh music with local horn band, Don Valley Stompers (1:00-3:30pm) – a powerful New Orleans style brass band, plus other surprise musical guests. RTC’s 100 Anniversary Celebrations (1:00pm) Kid’s interactive crafts and activities, including face painting, musical origami, rainbow necklace making and colourful cookies!

 Streetcar & An Síbin Pub Presents “Bringing Down Broadview” This street is a diversity of food fun and all sorts of funk. Streetcar Developments, An Síbin Pub and Boots & Bourbon will have a lineup of musical acts and treats. Get a taste of Celtic and Soul food, music, and drink! Enjoy a BBQ Feast and some of Ontario’s Best Craft Beers on the Back Patio & Beer Garden, plus a host of delicious bites from Boots & Bourbon. At 4pm get your boots stomping with Boots & Bourbon leading line dancing lessons, and then taking it out flash mob style. Steak Night Begins at 5pm come enjoy 3 different sizes & styles of Steak at Great Prices!  Come for the after-party at 10pm for some live Celtic Rock with The O’Deadly’s. Irish morsels and show off your Gallic foot work with guest Celtic band.

Janes Walk 2013

 The Riverdale Art Walk is a two-day (June 7th -8th ), public fine art exhibition showcasing established and emerging artists in retail spaces, artists’ studios and Jimmie Simpson Park in Toronto’s flourishing Queen East arts district. The first outdoor art show of Toronto’s season, participating artists are selected through an anonymous jury process, and is an initiative of the Artists’ Network, a not-for-profit, member-driven, arts organization dedicated to the development of self-sustaining, professional artists.
