CafeTO Program in Riverside BIA

Below is important information about the program in the Riverside BIA:

Program Schedule & Curblane Closures

The first round of CafeTO curb lane closures for licensed patios and public parklets will be installed along Queen Street East between Davies Avenue and De Grassi Street in May 2021.

The closures will remain in place until early November 2021. Please see the attached map for locations. This will use some existing curblane parking spots as patio space. These efforts are being undertaken by engineered traffic plans for each curblane closure, and investments by the City of Toronto, Riverside BIA, and participating businesses. Accessible ramps will be included for all curblane closures.

The City, BIA and participating business staff will also be working throughout the program duration to ensure barriers are correctly maintained and safe. Pylons cannot be moved to create parking spaces, and violations will be ticketed and potentially towed by Parking Enforcement.

These spaces are utilized to provide space for patrons to safely visit a restaurant/bar/cafe.

Waste Collection Changes

As was the case in 2020, the CafeTO curblane closures in 2021 will mean some changes to where waste is picked up on Queen Street East. If your address is within a curblane closure, please bring your waste on your regular pickup date to the outside edges of the closure.

Garbage and recycling left inside curblane closures cannot be picked up by the City. Please refer to the attached map for these modified waste pick up areas.

May 2021 Update from Councillor Paula Fletcher

Dear Riverside BIA Businesses, Property Owners, and Local Residents,

It has been over a year since this pandemic commenced in our City and I want to thank you once again for all your efforts to keep our community safe and to support local. We know that this time has been challenging to all of you along Queen Street East.

Last year, the City of Toronto and the Riverside BIA unveiled our CafeTO program on Queen Street East to support restaurants, bars and cafes by providing space for expanded outdoor dining areas. This program was very popular and critically important to the survival of local bars, restaurants and cafes, and it also supported overall foot traffic and shopping at local retailers and other businesses. I have been working diligently with the Riverside BIA and the local businesses to bring an enhanced CafeTO program to Queen Street East in 2021. The attached letter and map provide more information about the program within the Riverside BIA.

If you have any questions, I encourage you to work with Riverside BIA and the CafeTO team at cafeto@toronto.ca. You can also find more information about the CafeTO program at www.toronto.ca/cafeto.

Thank you for your efforts and commitment to keeping our community safe and vibrant.

Working for you,
Paula Fletcher
City Councillor
Ward 14, Toronto-Danforth
